Skagen town, Denmark

You will without a doubt enjoy a visit to Skagen. Skagen is the most northern town of Denmark, situated on the east coast of the Skagen Odde peninsula. Skagen is known for its painters and special light and color, but for generations Skagen's economy has been based on its fishing industry. Today tourism is the town's main industry. 

Allready in the middle ages Skagen started as a fishing village. Skagen was known for its herring. Towards the end of the 19th century the impressionist started coming to Skagen - today known as the Skagen Painters. In 1890 a narrow-gauged railway opened and in 1907 the port of Skagen opened. That meant easier connection to the rest of Denmark and then tourism began.
